On Artistic Direction: Find a good story that’s well told.
On Stage directing: The Theater is, in the end, an Actor’s medium. A director’s task is to shape the story space so that the actor’s characterization can fulfill it’s artistic potential.
My influences are derived from those which I had the luck to have worked with, if even if for a short time. This brief exposure to their brilliance was enough to etch into me some incredible insights into the art, science and humanity of directing. But mostly, I garnered from each one, the subtext that it is an honor, privilege and sacred responsibility to be trusted to direct artists in pursuit of their craft. To drop some names; Jack Garfein, Harold Clurman, Sidney Lumet, Tony Lover. And in the opposite direction, someone I never met or worked with, Alfred Hitchcock.
